Mollet del Vallès is a city located in the Vallès Oriental region (province of Barcelona), in the “autonomous community”, or self-governing region, of Catalonia. Mollet has over 51,000 inhabitants and is the second most populated municipality in the region. The city works towards zero waste territory, circularity and innovation. Through its OpenLab, it detects city challenges and seeks to create shared agendas with other agents in the catalan territory. Among the challenges it has developed are: the TRANSFORM project that helps improve waste management through gamification and citizen science; the Zero packaging market project where, through co-creation sessions, a bottom-up vision and citizen science, a pilot test has been carried out that analyzes the generation of single-use plastic packaging in the municipal market and seeks possible actions to reduce them; and the pilot in the automotive sector to analyze what waste is generated in automotive workshops, how it is treated and what circularity can be given to it.
